Nothing changes if nothing changes
Brick by brick...
Change is a funny thing. We all want it - especially when we're hurting. But wanting change and actually changing? Those are two very different battles.
For months, I'd been hoping things would magically get better. Praying for change while doing the same destructive things. Expecting God to transform my life while I kept making the same choices that got me where I was.
Until I finally understood what Einstein meant when he said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
It hit me like a ton of bricks: If I wanted different outcomes, I needed different inputs.
Think about it like this: you reap what you sow. If you plant apple seeds, you get apples. Not mangoes. Not oranges. Apples.
Life works the exact same way.
If you waste your time playing video games all day, you get the results of someone who plays video games all day.
If you skip class and party all night, you will get those results too.
That's one of the biggest traps many of us fall into.
We scroll through Instagram looking at other people's harvests, wondering why nothing good ever happens to us, while our own garden remains unplanted. We dwell in self-pity instead of taking action.
Trust me, I know. That used to be me.
You can pray all that you want for change, but it means nothing if you’re not willing to change yourself.
Here's the thing though - trying to change everything at once is exactly what had made me fail before. So instead, I picked one thing. One small battle I could win.
For me, it was my sleep schedule.
Now, I wake up at 5 AM (almost) every day. But I didn't start there. That would have been setting myself up for failure. Instead, I was waking up at 3 PM and made a simple commitment, I'd wake up at 1 PM instead.
Once that became normal, I pushed it to 12 PM. Then 11 AM. Small, manageable shifts that my body could adapt to.
Because here's the truth: You're not going to undo years of bad habits in a single day.
Remember success isn't a destination – it's a lifestyle.
It's about taking small steps forward. Committing to daily change. Getting 1% better each day.
Will you fall? Of course.
Will things always work as you want them to? Of course not.
But it's about committing to constantly getting back up.
Everyone wants to be successful, but very few even take the first step. And yes, it's the hardest one. You have to swallow your pride and accept that what you're currently doing isn't serving you.
Your life right now is a reflection of your lifestyle. Your daily habits. Those seemingly insignificant decisions? They compound over time.
Think about building muscle. One rep? Nothing happens. But do those reps every day for a year? People start asking you what you’re eating. Your habits work the same way.
I want you to make a commitment to change today. Not for me, but for yourself.
What's one thing - just ONE thing - that you can do to move your life in the right direction today?
Can you wake up 30 minutes earlier?
Cut out one unhealthy food?
Commit to doing 30 push ups a day?
It doesn't have to be massive. In fact, it's better if it isn't.
Because these small daily decisions? They're what will shape your future.
No book – not even this one – can change your life if you don't want your life to change.
So commit to taking that first step today.
Choose your one thing. Write it down. Start today.
Because until you take that first step, nothing will change.
